Adding a Friendly (SEO) Web Address to an External Address

Steps for web addresses outside the site

In some instances, you may desire to have a shorter or different web address to access a web address outside the web site. You might have a messy address like:
http://www.SomeOtherWebProvider.c0m/upcoming-events/blah/blah/registration.php?client=you-know-who

... but you want something like:
http://www.MyWebSite.cm/golf

The solution is creating a special redirection of this address to a new location.

Requirements:  The ReDJ component and plugin must be installed.

1.)

Select Components -> ReDJ -> Items

2.)Click "New" in the upper-right.

3.)

Within the Details, enter the 'friendly' From URL address. Make sure to have a forward-slash in front of the address.

AND add '/*$' on the end ensure addresses will function with and without a slash on the end of the address, like this:
http://www.MyWebSite.cm/golf
http://www.MyWebSite.cm/golf/

Make sure Published is set to 'Yes'

Insert the external address in the To URL. Make sure it includes the "http://" and the address functions.

Alert:

If there is a menu item that has the same address as this new entry, you may experience erratic behavior. Example, you may already have a menu item that surfs to an article: "http://yoursite.com/golf"

4.)Click "Save".

5.)

Using a different browser window, attempt to point your browser to this new address.

AND "http://yoursite.com/golf/"
