In some instances, you may desire to have a shorter or different web address to access an article (or page) within the web site. You might have an article with the address of:
http://MyWebSite.cm/upcoming-events/golf-outing
... but you want something like:
http://MyWebSite.cm/golf
The solution is creating a new navigation item (or menu button) that is hidden from the general public.
| 1.) | Set up: | |
| 2.) | Look under Menu. You should have a menu called "Hidden" or it may be called "Other." Select the Hidden Menu. If neither exists, check with the web developer before continuing. | ![]() |
| 3.) | Click 'New' to add a new hidden menu item. |
| 4.) | Select the Internal Link -> Articles |
| 5.) | Select 'Article Layout' |
| 6.) | In the Menu Item Details panel on the left, enter a title for the navigation item. This can be anything, and should be descriptive. Since it is hidden this can be as verbose or cryptic as you want. Example: "A nav item to somewhere cool." |
| 7.) | Next, the Alias field. THIS IS IMPORTANT. Enter the short and easy word or phrase. Using the example from above, I will enter 'golf'. Whatever is placed in this field will be the address on the site, such as "http://mywebsite.cm/golf" |
| 8.) | The remaining Menu Item Details does not require anyother adjustments. |
| 9.) | Now find and select the article that is linked to this Navigation Item.This article should already been built. |
| 10.) | Click 'Save.' Using a different browser window, type the full address in your browser and web page will load. (WARNING: Some modules will not load in this new page. You will need to go to the Module Manager to adjust how modules load.) |
