Create Menu Item for an Article

These instructions show how to link an existing article to a nav bar. It is assumed that the article already exists.

1.)
Select the menu that you wish to add a menu button to. In this example, the Main Menu is selected.

Click the 'New' button in the upper right.

Select the 'Articles' link to create a link to a page within the site.

4.)
Click the 'Article' layout. This creates the simplest web page layout.

5.)
On the left side, in the Title field, enter the name of the menu button. This can be almost anything descriptive. You do not have to enter the "Alias," as the system will create that automatically.

6.)
Within the Parent Item, you may have the menu item appear at the top level of the menu or you may nest it under another menu item. In the this example, the menu item will appear under the "Joomla Overview" menu.

The remaining fields on the left side (Published, Order, etc) do not need to touched for this example.

 

7.)
On the right, click "Select" to locate and select the page that the nav button will link to.

8.)
A pop-up box will appear, select the page you want to link to. Click on the name of the page.

9.)
Click "Save" on the upper right

10.)
You will now see that the menu item (or the new nav button) has been nested under a parent, and its is ready to go.

Return to the public side of the web site, refresh your browser, and see if the button is available.

Return to the public side of the web site, refresh your browser, and see the new button.
